The White Hart, Ludgvan

> Marazion Food and Drink > The White Hart, Ludgvan

The White Hart at Ludgvan (less than 3 miles from Marazion) is one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall; it dates from the 14th century.

Taken over by Jonathan and Helen Gibbard towards the end of 2008, the White Hart has undergone a complete refurbishment, including a new kitchen, redecorated bar area and installation of a covered heated outdoor decked area. The parking area and beer garden have also been improved. The result is a traditional pub that retains its appeal while at the same time serves great beer and food. And all less than 10 minutes drive from Marazion.

The White Hart has long been known for its beer. Real ales currently served include "Betty Stogs Bitter", "Doom Bar" and "Sharp's Own".

Betty Stogs from Truro, Cornwall based Skinners Brewery, won the Champion Best Bitter of Great Britain award in the 2008. Doom Bar, from Rock, Cornwall based Sharps Brewery, named after a particularly dangerous sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary in north Cornwall, is the best selling locally produced beer in the south west United Kingdom. Doom Bar also seems to have achieved an international cult status.

Jonathan, an award winning chef himself, works closely with the resident chef to ensure that The White Hart provides a good basic bar menu supplemented by an ever changing specials board that may include fresh local fish or local cuts of meat.

Specials recently have included Falmouth Bay mussels, rump steak, shellfish tagliatelle, baked goats cheese on a Dijon mustard crustini and sizzling sweet chilli chicken sir fry.

Prices range from £1.95 for starters, from £4.95 for main courses and from £3.95 for desserts. Sunday roast is available for £7.95.

When The White Hart reopened it ran a number of promotions. These have proved so popular with locals that they are continuing. Every Monday and Tuesday evening is "Tennerfest": get two courses for £10. From time to time there are steak nights and fish and chip nights.

There are also Senior Citizens' lunchtime specials on Mondays to Thursdays (subject to change so telephone to check) offering two courses (from a three course menu) for £5.95.

The White Hart is open seven days a week, all day during the summer months. Lunch is served from noon to 2:30pm. Evening meals are served from 6pm to 9:30pm.

Whether you are after a quiet drink, a pub lunch or a relatively inexpensive three course dinner, The White Hart, Ludgvan is highly recommended. For more information or to book a table telephone 01736 740574.

Marazion Guide Tips

If you like ham, egg and chips, The White Hart prepare one of the best with great tasting ham sliced from the bone and two fresh free range eggs.

Unlike many pubs the desserts do not disappoint; the profiteroles are particularly good.

In the winter, telephone to check opening hours. In the summer, telephone to book a table; The White Hart can get busy, but not obtrusively so.
